Tracking a severe threat Monday afternoon and evening

Updated at 5:15 PM: A Tornado Watch has been issued for the following counties: Andrew, Atchison (KS), Buchannan, Dekalb, Doniphan (KS), Gentry, Holt, Nodaway, and Worth until 12AM, Tues. April 29, 2025.

Scattered strong to severe storms are possible across Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas late Monday afternoon and evening. Coverage of thunderstorm activity may be limited, but any storms that develop could produce sizable hail, damaging wind gusts, and a few tornadoes. Thunderstorms could fire as early as 4 PM across far Northwest Missouri, Northeast Kansas, and Southeast Nebraska before marching further east and becoming more numerous into Monday evening. The threat for strong storms will continue as late as midnight for some areas, especially south of Highway 36 and into the Kansas City metro. Have a way to receive alerts and warnings as the evening progresses and stay weather aware. Rain and thunderstorm chances will decrease by early Tuesday morning with lows falling into the mid to low 50s and winds shifting from the north at 10 to 20 mph. Partly sunny, mild, and mainly dry conditions will prevail Tuesday afternoon, with a 20% chance of PM showers and highs in the upper 60s to low 70s. Substantial rain and thunderstorm chances will return by the middle of the work week, although the threat for severe weather should remain low Wednesday and Thursday.
