Tracking strong storms late tonight

Strong to severe thunderstorms are forecast to develop late tonight across the Mid-Missouri River Valley, and continue through early Wednesday morning.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued across much of Northeast Kansas and parts of Northwest Missouri through 3 AM Wednesday. 

NORTHEAST KANSAS COUNTIES: Doniphan, Brown, Atchison, and points west.

NORTHWEST MISSOURI COUNTIES: Atchison, Holt, Nodaway.

The Storm prediction Center has issued an enhanced risk for severe weather along and south of the highway 36 corridor, with a slight risk zone across far northern Missouri.  Multiple rounds of thunderstorm activity will be possible between 9 PM tonight and 5 AM Wednesday. Primary hazards include damaging wind gusts, and sizable hail. A few tornadoes will also be possible, along with locally heavy rainfall. Widespread rainfall totals of 0.5 - 1.5” are forecast across Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas.

Cloudy and windy conditions early Wednesday evening will give way to scattered storms after 9 PM. Gusty southerly winds will continue into the evening hours, sustained at 15 to 25 mph, with occasional gusts over 30 mph. Storms will become more numerous late, before exiting the area Wednesday morning. Overnight temperatures will run in the mid to upper 50s.

A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday morning will give way to a dry and breezy afternoon with partly sunny skies and southwest winds at 20 to 30 mph. High temperatures will rise into the mid to upper 60s after 1 PM.
