Moderate flooding continues along the Missouri River

The Missouri River continues running high from Omaha to Kansas City as drainage from major flooding upriver flows south.

As of Monday morning, the Missouri River was at 21.75 feet and rising at the gauge in St. Joseph, reaching the early phase of moderate flood stage, which begins at 21 feet.

Moderate flooding is forecast to continue along the Missouri River through mid to late week, with a crest of 24 feet expected on the evening of Wednesday, July 3. According to the National Weather Service, this will likely result in flooding of recreational areas such as River Front Park and potentially cause flooding for low-lying residential areas on the northwest side of St. Joseph.

Minor flooding is forecast along the Missouri River at Atchison, Kansas, with a crest of 26 feet anticipated early on Thursday, July 4.

A flood warning remains in effect for counties on both sides of the Missouri River, including Buchanan, through Monday, July 8.
