Rain causing minor flooding on area rivers

A round of thunderstorms late Monday night delivered soaking rains across Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas, leaving behind some rising waterways.

Rainfall totals ranging from half an inch to three inches across are resulting in minor flooding including on the Platte River near Agency and the Missouri River at St. Joseph.

As of 11 a.m. Tuesday, the Missouri River gauge at Downtown St. Joseph was at 14.06 feet and rising. Levels are expected to crest by Wednesday afternoon near 17.3 feet, just above the minor flood stage which starts at 17 feet.

Flood warnings remain in place across Buchanan, Doniphan and Andrew counties through Thursday afternoon.
