Buchanan County deputies to begin sporting Chiefs gear

Everyone wants to show their Chiefs spirit and now the hype has spread to local law enforcement agencies.
The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office plans to highlight the Kansas City team by decking out its deputies while they serve the community.
After the Chiefs’ AFC Championship win against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, the sheriff’s office took to social media sharing the department’s unique decision to show support as part of the Red Kingdom.
“We authorize our deputies to wear a stocking hat when it’s cold and it’ll say ‘Sheriff’ on it or a ball cap in their working uniform with one of our emblems on it,” said Buchanan County Sheriff Bill Puett. “Now, what we’re allowing through the Super Bowl is for our deputies to wear either a KC Chiefs stocking hat, baseball hat, or scarf. We don’t want anything over the top to take away from the uniform or anybody questioning whether we’re a law enforcement officer. Still, we want our men and women to show their spirit.”
The excitement surrounding the big game also has stirred things up around the office, with deputies rooting for either the local team or the Philadelphia Eagles.
From training camp to Red Rally, deputies say, “Everything starts in St. Joe,” and they’re proud to cheer on the hometown team alongside community members.
“The Chiefs organization loves to come to St. Joe and we love to have them,” said Puett. “There’s so much support for the Chiefs and all they do, so it’s just good to have that connection so we can show them some love and support on their way to bring us a third Super Bowl victory.”
Officers with the Clinton and Platte county sheriff's offices also will be wearing Chiefs stocking and ball caps for the next few weeks.
