The Chiefs youth Flag Football league players were on the turf in Spratt Memorial Stadium. Chiefs youth marketing Flag Football seasonal assistant, Abby Brown, enjoyed being out in the morning.

“This morning was just a celebration of our Chiefs Flag leagues who came out and represented the Chiefs at the 2024 NFL Flag championships in Canton, Ohio last week,” Brown said. “Just wanted to invite them out to training camp and come out, learn from some college coaches, college athletes and have some fun.”

The young players trained in positional drills as well as footwork drills. One of the quarterbacks, Gage Burgess, has been playing football since he was four years old.

“Today was fun getting to see how many people enjoy playing flag and just the opportunity the Chiefs have given us,” Burgess said. “And just the support that we have behind us.”

The young players braved the heat in the morning and were able to watch the Chiefs after.

“It’s fun because those are the people we look up to,” Burgess said. “People we inspire to be like, just being able to see them up close instead of in a stadium, it’s pretty fun.”

Young receiver, Gavin Otto, expressed the importance of him playing Flag Football and the positives it has brought to him.

“Not only as an athlete but as a person I have grown tremendously,” Otto said. “I used to be that shy kid that nobody wanted to talk to and I didn’t really want to talk but Flag Football has really just took me out of that shell and really brought me into my comfort zone.”

Brown attests to the growth the players experience from Chiefs Flag. She said she see’s growth especially from the girls. The opportunity provided to the young women is big for girls like Taylor Roe.

“Out of the three sports I play it is my favorite sport,” Roe said. “The playing is so much fun but also the environment. Going to play with girls who have also never played before is such a welcoming, caring and I just felt so comfortable since day one.”
