Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid shares his views on the 2023-24 season

The Kansas City Chiefs are now officially considered a dynasty by most NFL fans and reporters after their 25-22 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII this past Sunday.
The Chiefs enter the immortal state of back-to-back champions previously occupied by the 1960s Green Bay Packers, 1970s Pittsburgh Steelers, 1980s San Francisco 49ers, 1990s Dallas Cowboys and 21st century New England Patriots.
Kansas City becomes the ninth team to pull off a Super Bowl repeat and the first in 19 years, ending the longest back-to-back drought in Super Bowl history.
“To win one is tough, to win two back-to-back is really tough,” head coach Andy Reid said. “I mean, that’s not an easy thing to do and to know that the effort that the guys put into it, the way they stuck together through the highs and lows, you know.”
The Chiefs are the seventh franchise in the league with at least four Super Bowl victories and the sixth to win three over a five-season span. Reid was quick to acknowledge the help of Defensive Coordinator Steve Spagnuolo this season.
Offensively, The Chiefs’ 21.8 points per game ranked 15th in the NFL, by far their lowest finish in Mahomes’ six seasons as a starter, but Kansas City’s defense allowed the second-fewest points per game with 17.3.
“There wasn’t an offense versus defensive thing, it was us playing as one group,” Reid said. “You know, the guys jumping in and just doing a phenomenal job on special teams when needed, and so everybody had a little piece of the pie, and that’s gratifying as a head coach to be around something like that.”
The pathway to Super Bowl 59 is sure to be filled with obstacles as the Chiefs head into an offseason that could cost them their best defensive player, all-pro defensive tackle Chris Jones, as he’s scheduled to hit free agency next month, and working on a deal with cornerback L’Jarius Sneed.
After the Super Bowl parade on Wednesday, the coaches will take about a week off before the team starts preparing for their next endeavor.
“We’ve got the combine coming up, so we’ve got to get ourselves ready for that,” Reid said. “Then it just goes from there. I mean, we’re in the swing of things after that, once you get to the combine.”
