Tattoo shop anticipating rise in Chiefs ink on the horizon

Most sports fans know not to take championship-caliber seasons for granted. For some fans, though, they savor the good times in a permanent way.
When the Kansas City Chiefs won the 2020 Super Bowl their first in 50 years, some fans decided to get tattoos for their favorite team.
âEverybody was trying to jump on that bandwagon at that moment,â said Collin Easter, artist at Flying Pig. âWhen we first won the Super Bowl, we did a lot of them. It kind of like faded out, but like, we still stay busy.â
Even though the Chiefs have one main logo, fans who are getting tattoos have shown off their creativity, as Easter reflected on several different designs after the win over the San Francisco 49ers.
âWeâve had a lot from just the straight logo and from ripping out of the skin, the logo and hiding like the live in there for the Super Bowl win,â he said. âWeâve done a couple of the trophies and stuff like that. Theyâre always trying to, you know, show out their art.â
While the number of tattoos wasnât as high last year after the Chiefs beat the Philadelphia Eagles, some fans decided to go with tattoos that could be added onto. All area tattoo artists agree that they hope they get to do more Chiefs designs this week.
âMid-February, everybody comes in and starts booking their appointments months,â Easter said. âI see a lot of people coming in in the future because weâre probably going to win the Super Bowl.â
