Area high school basketball teams compete in Holiday Hoops 2024

The 2024 Holiday Hoops event has returned to St. Joseph this weekend. 

The St. Joseph Sports Commission shared that the Holiday Hoops event began at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 19 and will run through 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21 at the Civic Center Arena, located at 100 N. 4 St. in St. Joseph. 

Holiday Hoops is presented by United Fiber and is the third annual St. Joseph Area Sports Hall of Fame event. 

This year’s Holiday Hoops is also coinciding with the very first New Year’s Winter High School Basketball Showcase which is scheduled for Jan. 3 through Jan. 4 at the Civic Center Arena. 

Buchanan County area high school basketball teams, both boys and girls, are competing in “doubleheader classic style format” basketball games just days before Christmas. 

“In the spirit of fit, niche and game day environment, teams that have participated in Holiday Hoops in our first two years have been treated to a quality experience in a big-time arena style atmosphere,” said Brett Esely, Executive Director of the St. Joseph Sports Commission. This event, which continues to grow spurred the creation of our Winter Showcase just after the New Year which has been built as a two-game classic format that we hope to do exclusively in that model in the coming years.”

On Thursday, Dec. 19, Lafayette girls basketball played against Columbia Battle who won 39 to 36 at 6 p.m. then Lafayette boys team competed against Oak Park who won 75 to 35 at 7:30 p.m.

• 12:30 p.m. LeBlond girls vs. North Andrew
• 2 p.m. LeBlond boys vs. North Andrew
• 3:30 p.m. Savannah girls vs. Macon
• 5 p.m. Savannah boys vs. Macon
• 6:30 p.m. Benton girls vs. Park Hill South
• 8 p.m. Benton boys vs. Park Hill South

The Schedule for Saturday, Dec. 21 is:

• 10 a.m. St. Joseph Christian girls vs. DeKalb
• 11:30 a.m. St. Joseph Christian boys vs DeKalb
• 1 p.m. North Platte girls vs. Platte Valley
• 2:30 p.m. North Platte boys vs. Platte Valley
• 4 p.m. Mid-Buchanan girls vs. Maysville 
• 5:30 p.m. Mid-Buchanan boys vs. Maysville 
• 7 p.m. Central girls vs. KC Kipp
• 8:30 p.m. Central boys vs. Chillicothe
