The Class 3 District 16 girls volleyball championship will once again head back to Savannah, as the Savages defeat Chillicothe 3-0 Monday night.

Monday night’s matchup in Cameron between the two programs would be just the second time Savannah and Chillicothe have met, with the result being the same.

Savannah came out of the gates strong, going up 4-1 and keeping a roughly three to four point lead through the first half of the set. With strong play on at the net and hustle, the Savages end the first set on a 9-1 run and winning 25-13.

It just really shows how much we care and play for the person next to us, Sophomore Aryana Spry said. “The difference between us and everyone else is we play for the person next to us and as a team.”

Each set got gradually closer as Chillicothe did not fold. Savannah took set two 25-18, and completed the sweep with a 25-22 win in the third set. Head coach Miranda Mizera lauded Chillicothe for their fight after the game, while also applauding her team for their effort.

I’m just so proud of them,” Mizera said. “We have been working really, really hard to peak at the right time.”

The Savages captured their second consecutive district title on Monday night, and will move on to the sectional round. Seniors like Trinaty Fansher earn themselves another game in their high school careers.

“I feel great. I’m so excited. I can never ask for a better team. And these girls, I love these girls and I love this sport,” Fansher said.
