Missouri Western women’s basketball swept the season series against Rogers State, winning 57-43 against the Hillcats on Saturday to round out the home schedule.

Saturday made for a good send off for Western seniors Connie Clarke and Jordan Cunningham. Clarke notched another double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Cunningham finished second in scoring for the Griffons with 13 points on 6-6 shooting off the bench. Cunningham shared her gratitude for being part of the program after the game.

“I’ve absolutely loved my four years here; it means the world to me,” Cunningham said. “I love my team and I’ve loved playing here, and it’s nice to end on a high note like that.”

The senior night victory coupled with a Missouri Southern loss to Pittsburg State now puts the Griffon women solely in first place of the MIAA women’s standings with just three games remaining. Clarke knows what it’s like to be in a position where the Griffons are a force to be reckoned with, but knows how they got here is from the work they’ve put in throughout the season.

Throughout the whole season, like the coach always told us, nothing is going to be given to us, so I feel like we earned it over the years,” Clarke said. “I know that we’re not hot heads… Coach always told us it’s one game at a time, so I feel like we’re doing good just focusing on what’s next and not the future.”

The Griffon women will have three more road contests left with Northwest Missouri State, Newman and Pittsburg State to travel to. The Griffons’ only loss at home came at the hands of the Gorillas earlier in the season.
