Lafayette girls wallop East Buchanan

Class 4 No. 8 Lafayette girls basketball notched its fourth win in a row on Monday with a win over East Buchanan 62-36.
The young Fighting Irish, who carry just three upperclassmen on the roster, got a heavy dose of scoring from its core of underclassmen in the win. Sophomore led the scoring with 22 points for Lafayette, with others notching double figures as well.
With 6’ 5” sophomore Laniya Carriger anchoring the middle, Lafayette limited the opportunities East Buchanan had at scoring in the paint. The Bulldogs settled for mostly outside shots in the first half, with 15 of their 17 first half points coming from three-point range. East Buch’s lone senior Laney Wilmes notched 12 of the Bulldogs’ 17 points in the half, all of which came from the three-point arc.
However, Wilmes’s hot start would cool off rather fast. In the second half, Wilmes would go scoreless, leaving the scoring to the rest of the team.
With the win, Lafayette notches its fourth win in a row, while East Buchanan drops its fourth game in a row.
Lafayette was ranked No. 8 in the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association’s Class 4 poll that was released on Monday.
