A local professional fighter has his next fight in sight, hoping to maintain his perfect record as a pro.

St. Joseph native and Benton graduate Tyson Hicks, now 5-0 in his professional fighting career, is slated for his next pro fight in late February. With Hicks’s opponent yet to be determined, the 34-year-old says he feels fresh months out from his next professional mixed martial arts fight and is only getting better.

“If you go back and watch me, I feel like I’m slowly but surely starting to turn into the fighter I know I can be,” Hicks said. “I’m looking forward to having a big year. I’m ready to get rolling.”

Hicks has prided himself as versatile fighting, competing in mixed martial arts or kickboxing fights. The Benton graduate comes off of a kickboxing victory against Jamese Taylor III last month.

Still very early in his professional career, Hicks says he continues to watch film of each fight, and it’s a way for him to hold himself accountable.

“Film is everything. It’s how you learn, what could you have done better? It’s also a confidence booster,” Hicks said. “I’m hard on myself, especially come 2025, I got high expectations, no less than four fights.”

Hicks’s next fight set for late February is expected to take place in Kansas City, Missouri.
