Victim killed in Sunday shooting identified

St. Joseph police say the man killed in a Sunday afternoon shooting was a resident of the home where the shooting happened.

The victim is 30-year-old Melchizedek J. Fitzgerald, who resided at 2218 S. 14th St. in the home where the shooting took place, according to Capt. Jeff Wilson of the St. Joseph Police Department.

Two other subjects sustained gunshot wounds. Wilson identified them as a 20-year-old man who is a Johnson County, Kansas, resident and was sent by helicopter to a Kansas City hospital for critical care and a 20-year-old man from Atchison, Kansas, who is being treated as critical but stable at Mosaic Life Care.

Police say at this point there is no indication that any other subjects were involved in the shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
