Extreme temperatures bring excessive heat warning

By Jared Shelton
Extreme heat and humidity will continue to impact the mid-Missouri River Valley Tuesday, as above-average temperatures intensify across the heartland.
Temperatures are anticipated to reach the upper 90s across Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas after lunchtime Tuesday, with oppressive humidity resulting in heat indices or “feels like” temperatures of up to 113 degrees. Similar conditions are anticipated through the afternoon hours of Wednesday and Thursday.
An excessive heat warning has been issued for all of Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas, including Buchanan County from 1 p.m. Tuesday to 7 p.m. Wednesday. A heat advisory will go into effect from 7 p.m. Wednesday through 7 p.m. Thursday as high temperatures of lesser intensity linger.
To avoid cases of heat-related illness, be sure to drink plenty of fluids, have access to an air-conditioned space, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors.
