See St. Joseph: World-renowned entertainment coming to town

By Kendra Simpson
While the days continue to get shorter this season, there are still plenty of events and entertainment to make the weekend memorable in this week’s edition of See St. Joseph.
Celebrating its 30th year, the “Do Portugal Circus” has traveled to Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico and, for the first time, St. Joseph, Missouri.
Experience performances and stunts that will leave the audience in awe. The circus has focused on interactive and family friendly shows for generations including trapeze, acrobatics and even motor stunts.
“For me, it’s really personal because I’m part of the family,” said Yani Portugal, a circus manager and clown. “When we finish the shows and people actually stand up, it doesn’t matter how many times it happens in the same week, it gives me that feeling of satisfaction that we’re doing something good.”
“They describe themselves as ‘daring risk takers’ so it’s going to be an exciting show for people to come out and see,” East Hills Mall General Manager Lindsey Davis said.
The “Do Portugal Circus” will build a temporary home at the East Hills Mall beginning 7:30 p.m. Friday with shows going until Sept. 8. To purchase tickets to one of the show’s, visit the circus’ website at https://www.doportugalcircususa.com/shows.
Get ready to work out, have fun and help out a good cause because it is time for the annual VolleyPaws tournament.
Gather your best spikers and most competitive friends for a chance to save animals. Each team is pay-to-play and all proceeds will go toward Friends of the Animal Shelter. The tournament begins 9 a.m. Saturday at Volley’s. To register a team of six, visit the event’s Facebook page.
