See St. Joseph: Summer fun cooling down

By Kendra Simpson
With the intense heat cooling off, St. Joseph summer activities are coming to an end. Luckily, the fun doesn’t stop there. With tailgates, races and concerts the party continues on in this week’s edition of See St. Joseph.
The cooler temperatures have created the perfect weather to get out and go for a run, and the Firefighter Memorial 5k is a great opportunity.
Every year, this 5k is held to benefit the St. Joseph Firefighter’s Memorial and honor St. Joseph firefighters. All money raised goes toward maintaining and insuring the memorial. Participants can run, walk and even bring a pet to join in on the fun. Finishers will receive a custom medal. The race begins at Fire Station No. 9 at 3202 Faraon St. at 8 a.m. Saturday. Runners can sign up online at https://runsignup.com/Race/MO/SaintJoseph/Firehouse5KMemorialRun.
While the Chiefs face off against the Jaguars for their first preseason game Saturday, The Den is hosting a pregame party with a Tayvis Tailgate Brunch.
Join The Den for a Travis Kelce/Taylor Swift-themed tailgate brunch. There’s going to be Super Bowl-style tailgate snack, a “Bad Blood” brunch spread, themed music bingo, photo-ops and more. Wear your best Chiefs jersey or your most sparkly boots. Brunch goes from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at The Den. Tickets can be purchased online at thedenstjoe.com.
As much as the community has enjoyed it, the Imagine Eleven concert series is coming to an end this weekend.
All summer long, this concert series has showcased a variety of highly gifted musicians from all over the area. It’s also showcased the beauty of Downtown St. Joseph and its community. “Soca Jukebox” is sending off the series on Sunday. This band is described as a musical getaway, covering a blend of island-rock and classic hits in rock, reggae, country and soul-calypso. The final Imagine Eleven concert of the year begins 6 p.m. in Coleman Hawkins Park at the gazebo. As always, this event is free and open to the public.
While the summer may be coming to an end, local fun and entertainment will not, with fall festivities soon kicking off. News-Press NOW will have more events and community happenings in next week’s See St. Joseph.
