See St. Joseph: Summer celebrations coming to an end

By Kendra Simpson
Although the beginning of the school year is right around the corner, the community still has several fun summer celebrations to enjoy in this week’s edition of See St. Joseph.
This weekend, the Midwest meets Latin American culture at the 55th annual St. Patrick’s Fiesta. Join the congregation of St. Patrick Church for two days of food and fun. This year’s Latin immersion will feature a queen coronation dance, traditional Mexican food, a silent auction and more. The fiesta begins at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, at the St. James Parish Gym and concludes Saturday, Aug. 3, with an 8 p.m. show of Latin American cultural dancing at St. Patrick Church. For a complete list of activities, visit the event’s Facebook page.
With the school year approaching, the East Hills Shopping Center and the St. Joseph Public Library are celebrating back to school by throwing a Pete the Cat Pajama Party complete with storytime. At 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, near the mall’s carousel, kids can bring pillows and blankets and enjoy a pajama party, where Pete the Cat himself will even join in on the fun. If you can’t make it Friday, no problem. Pete will host another story time at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, followed by a meet and greet until 2 p.m. There will be a craft table, a scavenger hunt and a groovy button jar. All of these events feature a chance at great prizes. For a complete list of activities, visit the event’s Facebook page.
And what better way to send off summer vacation than a tiki-themed brunch? Join the Provident Brunch House and Brewery for its tiki-themed brunch in a fun and festive atmosphere. Indulge in delicious eats, tropical treats and refreshing cocktails. The tropical paradise is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, at the Provident, 513 Francis St. Tickets can be purchased through the event’s online reservation form, brand.site/theprovident.
