See St. Joseph: Royal gatherings, musicals and races

By Kendra Simpson
From musicals to balls to races, St. Joseph has entertainment and activities lined up for everyone in this week’s edition of See St. Joseph.
We’ve got trouble, my friend — Meredith Willson’s six-time Tony Award-winning musical comedy “The Music Man” is returning to St. Joseph since its last performance at the Missouri Theater almost 20 years ago.
“The Music Man” follows the story of a traveling salesman as he cons people in a city in Iowa into buying instruments for a boys band that doesn’t exist. He sets to leave town, but plans change when he falls in love with the town’s librarian. This musical promises fun for the whole family with unique and fun music. Curtain opens at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Missouri Theater. Tickets are available online at RRT’s website at https://rrtstjoe.org/.
Dearest readers, a Bridgerton Ball is coming to St. Joseph this weekend.
If you’re a fan of the show, book series or both, then this is the ball for you. The whole ton is invited to this first-ever Bridgerton-themed ball. Dress to impress because not only will the queen be searching for her diamond of the season, but there will also be a costume contest with brilliant prizes. Those in attendance can expect a spread of food and drink, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Doors open at 6 p.m. Saturday at Southern Roots Event Center. Tickets can be purchased through the event’s Facebook page.
But don’t dance the night away too long because St. Joseph is waking up early Sunday morning for a 5k.
For those who like a little sweet treat with their exercise, this race is the one. The annual DoNot Stop Half Marathon, 5k and 10k is a donut-themed event for the whole family. Participants can eat donut holes along the way with the Baker’s Dozen challenge and celebrate finishing the race with a full donut. Participants also get a DoNot stop 5k T-shirt and medallion. The race begins at 8 a.m. Sunday at Krug Park. To sign up for the race, visit the registration website.
