Fourth of July celebrations are underway all weekend long in St. Joseph. Whether you’re kicking back with a movie or kicking boots at a concert, News-Press NOW has all you need for holiday celebrations in this week’s edition of See St. Joseph.

When our forefathers signed the Declaration of Independence from England, it’s safe to say they didn’t imagine having to claim it against alien encounters. Luckily, the Trail Theatre will be playing “Independence Day” so St. Joseph can better plan, just in case. In the movie, on July 2, a giant alien mothership enters orbit around Earth and deploys several dozen saucer-shaped “destroyer” spacecraft that quickly lay waste to major cities around the planet. On July 4, a plan is devised to gain access to the interior of the alien mothership in space. Come celebrate the Fourth of July with the sci-fi film, “Independence Day” all weekend long starting at 7 p.m. Friday at the Trail Theater. Tickets can be purchased at the counter or online at www.thetrailtheatre.com/movie/independence-day.

In Missouri, Fourth of July celebrations must include water activities, delicious food and toe-tapping music. If you’re looking for all this and more, look no further because the Country Backroads Music Festival has all the above and more. Get ready to experience the best of country music as talented artists and bands take the stage to entertain you from afternoon until night. From classic hits to the latest chart-toppers, they’ve got it all. Cornhole tournaments, food trucks, vendors, water activities and, of course, good old country music. All this and more can be found at the two-day festival. The party begins on Friday, July 5, and goes until the evening of Saturday, July 6, at Barnes Acres and Ol’ MacDonald’s Farm in Savannah. Tickets can be purchased online at the event’s website, www.countrybackroadsmusicfestival.com or Facebook page.

When you’re out celebrating this week, stay safe, drink lots of water and be sure to tune in next Thursday for more See St. Joseph.
