Cordonnier retiring from post as fire chief

Kenny Cordonnier is retiring from his position as St. Joseph's fire chief on April 4.

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (News-Press NOW) -- The city will be seeking a new fire chief.

Chief Kenny Cordonnier will retire on Friday, April 4, capping a 43-year career. He has served as fire chief since November 2021.

Cordonnier started with the city in September 1981 and served in several positions, including nine years as the chief of fire prevention before moving into his current role. During his time as chief, the new fire station 8 was completed, the process for a new fire station 10 began and upgrades were made to fire headquarters.

Assistant Fire Chief Jamie McVicker will be the new acting fire chief while the city searches for a replacement.
