Fire crews battle late-night structure fire

By NewsPress Now
The St. Joseph Fire Department worked the scene of a fire near the intersection of North 12th and Church streets Tuesday night.
The initial call for the fire at 1211 Church St. came in around 10 p.m. A stairway and part of the back of the structure collapsed shortly after crews arrived on scene, Battalion Chief Paris Jenkins told News-Press NOW.
The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire and there were no civilian or firefighter injuries, Jenkins said.
The structure was a total loss but crews were able to stop the fire from spreading to surrounding houses, according to officials.
As of Wednesday afternoon, no cause of the fire had been determined.
