A Kansas man received serious injuries in a fiery crash on Interstate 29 just north of St. Joseph late Monday.

Martin Kinni, 46, of Overland Park, Kansas, was driving south on I-29 when he attempted to pass another vehicle near the 57-mile marker in Andrew County. He drove off the road and began sliding, hitting a cement barrier and an overhead signpost before his SUV caught fire, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report.

He was taken to Mosaic Life Care with serious injuries. He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, the patrol report said.
