Labor Day weekend deadly for 10 in Missouri

Ten people died on Missouri roads and waterways during the long Labor Day weekend.
Seven people, including one in DeKalb County, died in traffic crashes, two were killed in a boating crash and one person drowned between 6 p.m. on Aug. 30, through 11:59 p.m. on Sept. 2, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report.
Saturday was the deadliest day on Missouri roads, with four of the fatalities occurring then. Friday, Sunday and Monday saw one traffic fatality each. Two of the fatalities involved a pedestrian, including the one in DeKalb County on Sunday when Luci N. Pineda, 38, of Farmington, Minnesota. She died after being struck by another vehicle on Interstate 35 after getting out of a vehicle that landed on its top in an accident.
An Osage Beach police officer died Saturday while involved in a pursuit. Phylicia F. Carson, 33, of Lake Ozark, Missouri, drove across the center of the road, began to skid and struck a tree, catching fire.
In total, troopers worked 233 traffic crashes, which included 115 injuries and the seven fatalities, on Missouri roads during the weekend. They also made 108 DWI arrests.
The two boating fatalities and the drowning all occurred in the Troop F, Jefferson City, area. On the water, troopers investigated three boating crashes, which included eight injuries in addition to the two fatalities. They also made eight boating while intoxicated arrests.
