Occupants shaken up after shot hits salon

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (News-Press NOW) -- A local business is cleaning up after having a window shot out Thursday morning.
Rachel Knowles, a stylist at Salon 1027, located at 1027 Frederick Ave., said staff were accepting clients when they heard multiple sirens outside.
"I was standing with my back towards the window and a pop came through," Knowles said. "I turned around and watched the window come out, and I knew it was a gunshot and there was glass everywhere."
A bullet that struck the window also went through a stylist's chair. Fortunately, no one was sitting in it.
The incident happened during the time suspects in a carjacking who were fleeing police were firing a gun from their vehicle. Police declined to specify which buildings were hit during the pursuit but confirmed the chase passed by 10th and Frederick.
Knowles said that while no one was injured, fear began to sink in among those in the salon. She added that all appointments were cancelled for the day so staff could clean the sidewalk and salon.
"I think that we all will be OK," Knowles said. "It's shocking. We see a lot happen down here, but nothing like that ever.
Police caution tape was also in place around the outside of City Hall, which is located across the street from the salon.
