Family seeking justice, fatal hit-and-run remains unsolved

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (News-Press NOW) — A St. Joseph family is looking for justice after 41-year-old Jason Goldesberry was killed in a hit-and-run more than three months ago.
At approximately 3:58 a.m. on Sunday, December 1, 2024, Goldesberry was walking on the sidewalk of St. Joseph Avenue when he was struck by a vehicle.
The vehicle proceeded to crash into the front porch of a house after striking Goldesberry who died as a result of his injuries.
With no arrests made, Goldesberry’s family is asking people to come forward.
“I had been waiting for Jason to come home all day that day, so to get that knock is just... it’s a knock that you never want to get,” Goldesberry’s fiancé Laci Glidewell said. “Jason deserves justice and so do his kids and anybody who knew and loved him.”
Goldesberry worked primarily in construction and was a family man who loved his five children. However, the time he could’ve spent raising his children, including a newborn, was cut short.
“He was so excited to be a dad and they only got three weeks together before it got stolen,” said Glidewell. “This has been just devastating.”
“We just want to see justice, I mean, there’s somebody out there that has to know something,” Goldesberry’s cousin Lorrie Masterson said.
Glidewell has frequently visited the location Goldesberry was killed to place signs on the utility pole in memorium.
Glidewell shared that the signs are constantly being taken down by individuals who she believes are not with the City, for the family, it has been excrutiating.
“There’s a lot of different, mixed emotions we’re feeling knowing that somebody has taken the sign down, “Glidewell said. “I don’t know who or why, but the signs are only being placed there to try and bring a little bit more attention to this case.”
While the case appears to be moving slowly to those on the outside, The St. Joseph Police Department have not stopped searching for answers.
According to SJPD Sergeant James Tonn, local law enforcement could not share too many details regarding the case, however, it is still being actively investigated by authorities and detectives. SJPD hopes to have the case solved as soon as possible.
“We have a couple of specific leads we’re following up on about this incident and sometimes they just take time,” said Sgt. Tonn. “We want to make sure we do it right so that there’s justice for the family, justice for the victim and it should be coming together soon.”
As law enforcement continues to investigate, Goldesberry’s loved ones will continue bringing attention to this case in the hope that drivers will pay more attention to pedestrian travel.
“This shouldn’t have happened,” Glidewell said. “Drivers need to be more aware and watch what they’re doing because Jason wasn’t in the street, he was on the sidewalk when this happened.”
