A Corning, Iowa, man is hospitalized in St. Joseph with serious injuries following a crash early Sunday on Interstate 29 just south of Rock Port, Missouri.

The man, 28, was driving a semi over the speed limit, overtaking a second truck as both were going north, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report. An attempt to swerve and miss the second semi was unsuccessful as the man hit the back of a towed unit, causing him to drive his truck off the side of the road and overturn, with the vehicle coming to a rest on its passenger side, the report said.

The Corning man was seriously injured and taken to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph by ambulance. The driver of the second semi, a 67-year-old man from Miami, wasn’t injured, the report said. Both men were wearing seat belts.
