Two people are in the hospital with serious injuries following a UTV crash early Monday morning in Polo, Missouri.

Justin Chapman, 46, of Polo was driving the UTV at 12:40 a.m. in a field south of Templeton Drive with a passenger, Elizabeth Gutierrez, 27, of Holt, Missouri, on board when he hit an embankment, causing the vehicle to overturn several times, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report. Neither person was using a safety device and both were thrown from the UTV during the crash, the report said.

Chapman was taken to Liberty Hospital, and Gutierrez went to North Kansas City Hospital for treatment.

The Polo accident was the second crash of the weekend involving a UTV. Joseph Lilly, 26, of St. Joseph also suffered serious injuries when the Polaris Ranger he was driving just before 10 p.m. on Oct. 26 on Koala Road near 225th Road south of Jameson slid on a curve, ran off the road and overturned, according to a highway patrol report.

Lilly, who the patrol report said was not using a safety device, was taken to Mosaic Life Care for treatment.
