A man charged in a Buchanan County child abuse case will serve 15 years in prison following a guilty plea on Wednesday to similar charges in a 2022 incident involving a Ray County baby.
Antonio Campos, 25, was charged last week with abuse or neglect of a child in Buchanan County in a case where a 10-month-old was found with injuries that included a brain bleed, fractured leg and genital trauma, according to a probable cause statement.
On Wednesday, Campos pleaded guilty in a Ray County courtroom to five counts of abuse or neglect of a child stemming from a 2022 case where an 8-week-old boy had injuries including brain bleeding, broken ribs, lacerations to the liver and spleen, a fractured arm and a broken leg, court documents show. He was on furlough from Ray County in that case when the injuries to the Buchanan County child occurred.
Campos was sentenced on Wednesday to 10 years in prison each on three of the counts with those sentences being served concurrently. He will serve five years each on the other two charges, with those terms being served consecutively to the first three counts but at the same time to each other.
No court dates have been set for Campos in the Buchanan County case, but an attorney did file to represent him in the latest charge on Oct. 8.
