One man is dead after a shooting Wednesday morning on private property in Dearborn, Missouri, an incident that led to a lockdown of the North Platte School District.

The Platte County Sheriff’s Office arrived in the 15000 block of Masonic Drive in Dearborn at about 9 a.m. following a call about a “suspicious” man outside of a private residence, according to a release from the department.

The homeowner reported a partially clothed man was demonstrating erratic behavior outside the home, praying to a horse and attacking a dog.

The man — only described as a male between the ages of 30 and 40 — was shot and killed by the homeowner after he forcibly attempted to enter the residence.

When deputies arrived, the man was found dead at the entrance of the home.

The shooting resulted in the North Platte School District being placed on lockdown for roughly an hour. The lockdown has since been released.

The incident remains under investigation by the Platte County Sheriff’s Office.
