St. Joseph woman seriously injured in head-on crash

A 60-year-old woman was hospitalized with serious injuries after a crash Friday afternoon just north of St. Joseph.

William White, 46, of Helena, Missouri, was traveling north on U.S. Route 169 in a 2015 Chevrolet pick-up truck. Yalena Olivares, 60, of St. Joseph, was traveling north on Woodbine Road and attempted to turn onto southbound U.S. 169, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol crash reports.

White tried to swerve to avoid her vehicle, but instead struck the 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe head-on, according to crash reports.

Both vehicles came to rest in the roadway. Olivares was taken to Mosaic Life Care for serious injuries. White was also taken to Mosaic for minor injuries.

It is unknown if Olivares was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
