Highway patrol identifies weekend drowning victim

A St. Joseph man has been identified after drowning in the Missouri River on Sunday.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol identified Johnathan Harness, 21, on Monday after he went swimming in the river Sunday morning and didn’t resurface. Multiple agencies began searching on Sunday, and the search for him continued Monday. 

Support poured in from community members as the search went on. The highway patrol report says his body was found near where he was swimming at the French Bottom conservation area, and he was pronounced dead around 4 p.m.
