Three people were taken to the hospital with moderate injuries following a three-vehicle crash on St. Joseph Avenue on Tuesday afternoon.

The accident happened near Middleton Street, and several emergency crews responded to the scene. Police asked drivers to avoid the area.

“A Dodge pickup was in the front, going straight northbound on St. Joseph Avenue at Middleton (Street),” St. Joseph police officer Jeremy Ellis said. “Had a silver SUV, it was second in line. A red passenger vehicle struck the second vehicle, pushing it into the third.”

Police remained on the scene to try and identify the drivers and vehicles involved in the accident.

“Some people didn’t have a driver’s license visible that we could see at this time on their immediate person,” Ellis said. “So we’ll go out to the hospital and ID them, verify the make and model of all the vehicles, make sure all the license plates check to that vehicle so we know the owners.”
