Swagerty, Elizabeth J. 1934-2025 Maryville, Mo.

MARYVILLE, Mo. – Elizabeth “Betty” Swagerty, 90, passed away March 23, 2025, at Nodaway Nursing Home with family at her side. Betty was born Nov. 8, 1934, in Clyde, Missouri, to Cornelius and Elizabeth (O’Connor) McManus.

Betty attended six years at St. Benedict’s school in Clyde and two years at Fairview school, at Stanberry, Missouri. Betty graduated from Jefferson High School in 1952.

Betty married Harold Swagerty on Dec. 31, 1955.

Betty worked for Glidden Paint retail store as office manager for 31 years in Omaha, Nebraska. Betty retired in 1996 and moved to Maryville, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Norbert McManus; sister, Ella Lee Moffitt; and nephews, Mark McManus and Joe McManus.

She is survived by brother, C. Dean McManus, Naples, Florida; and sister, Alicia “Liz” (Ray) Schieber, Maryville; her niece and nephews, Jim McManus, Mike (Jodi) McManus and Brian (Diann) Schieber, Stacy (Matt) Blythe, Bradley (Susan) Schieber.

Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Thursday, St. Gregory’s Catholic Church. The family will gather with friends one hour prior to the service. Inurnment St. Columba Cemetery, Conception, Missouri. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the New Nodaway Humane Society.
