KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Margie Ellen (Beaty) Strautman, 103, Kansas City, Missouri, passed away Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025. She was born June 11, 1921, to Louis C. and Myrtle (Tennis) Beaty, in St. Joseph.

Margie graduated from Benton High School, St. Joseph, in 1939, and Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, in 1941.

She married Everett Lee Strautman on Nov. 16, 1945. They were married for nearly 40 years before his death in 1985.

Margie and Everett were engaged in the grocery business for decades in Atchison and Holt counties in northwest Missouri, as owners of the Market Basket in Tarkio, Missouri, and the Hy-Klas grocery in Craig, Missouri.

After relocating to Kansas City in the early 1980s, Margie worked at Farmland Industries, retiring in 1996.

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Minnie Hochenauer Beaty; stepbrother, William Hochenauer; and her husband.

Survivors include her children: William L. “Bill” Strautman, Grandview, Missouri, Randolph (Randy) Strautman and his spouse, Marni, The Villages, California, Ellen A. Strautman and her spouse, Cheryl Duncan, Columbia, Missouri, and James Alexander “Alex” Strautman and his spouse, Kevin Spier, Tacoma, Washington.

Private Farewell Services & Interment, Mount Mora Cemetery.
