Sharon Kay Maynard Royle, 79, St. Joseph, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2024, the evening of the harvest moon.
She was born Feb. 9, 1945, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Col. Stanley Getchel Maynard Sr. and Mary Louise Jacoby Maynard.
She received a degree in English literature at the University of Missouri. While attending school, she worked as a nurse’s aide which ignited an interest in the field of nursing. She then studied nursing at St. Joseph Sisters’ Hospital, became a registered nurse, and committed her life to working as a nurse for nearly 40 years until her retirement.
She was a caring person and would always go out of her way to help. Sharon was passionate about cats, birds, and all forms of wildlife.
She enjoyed birdwatching, reading, had an interest in gemstones. Sharon was fond of sharing stories with friends and neighbors. She loved food cuisines from all over the world. Sharon was a unique personality and always true to herself.
She was preceded in death by her father; mother; brother, Stanley G. Maynard Jr.; and younger sister, Elizabeth M. Maynard.
Her survivors include her sister, Zora Maynard; nephew, Vonn A. Walter; niece, Chloe D. Maynard; great-nephew, Stanley V. Maynard; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the World Wildlife Fund or the ASPCA.
