Merritt Sr., Richard E. 1942-2025 St. Joseph, Mo.

Richard E. Merritt Sr., born on July 23, 1942, passed away at the age of 82 on Monday, Feb. 3, 2025. Richard was born in Valparaiso, Nebraska, to Clifford and Lyndell Merritt. He was the fourth of five children: Jim, Bill, Lee and Kay.

At a young age Richard joined the Navy. After returning home, he met the love of his life, Sandra McGlaun. The two were married in 1965. He worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad for 30 years and retired at the age of 60.

Richard E. Merritt Sr. is survived by his four children: Richard Jr., Jeana (Ken Grannas II), Lisa and Rena; along with 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
