Chester LaVern Burks, 77, St. Joseph, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025, at his home. Chester was born on Aug. 17, 1947, in Gentry, Missouri, to the late Chester Ross “Chet” and Imogene Ann (Steinman) Burks. He was a 1965 graduate of Stanberry High School.

Mr. Burks retired from Affiliated Foods as a forklift operator.

Chester loved fishing and camping trips. He always enjoyed helping those around him and was known in the neighborhood as “Mr. Fix-it”. He enjoyed tinkering on projects and cars, but above all he loved spending time with his family and going to eat.

Chester married the love of his life, Marilynn Miller, on June 12, 1970. They celebrated 53 years of marriage until her passing on June 3, 2024. Together they raised their two children. Chester was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed.

Chester is survived by his son, Tim Burks and wife, Jen; daughter, Pamela Osborn and husband Barry; four grandchildren, Zachary, Alexa, Courtney and Cody; three brothers, Kenneth, Max and Raymond Burks; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025, at Heaton-Bowman-Smith Savannah Chapel, 307 South 6th Street, Savannah, MO 64485. Interment Savannah Cemetery, Savannah, Missouri.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2025, at our chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. As published in the St. Joseph News-Press.
