Wilson, Shawn 1976-2025 St. Joseph, Mo.

Shawn Wilson, 48, of St. Joseph, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2025, at his home. Shawn was born Aug. 18, 1976, in Hiawatha, Kansas, son of the late Betty and Rex Wilson.

Shawn attended Lafayette High School. On Sept. 19, 1998, he married Sonya Cox, in St. Joseph.

Shawn was a Member of the Laborers Union, Local 579 and worked for GA Thompson Painting, where he retired due to illness after 29 years. He was a Ford Truck collector, a hard worker and he enjoyed working with his hands and spending time in his garage. Shawn will be remembered for being a true friend who was reliable and dedicated to his family.

Shawn was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Kaylen “Tom” Wilson and Tim Wilson.

Survivors include his wife, Sonya Wilson, of the home; children, son, Coby Cox, of St. Joseph, Patience (Tyler) Husong, of Aurora, Missouri, and Torrie Gibson, of St. Joseph; siblings, Kevin (Marla) Wilson, Shannon Wilson, John (Christina) Wilson, Kimberly (David) Wilson, all of St. Joseph; grandchildren, Saphira, Daxton, and Jupiter; his beloved dogs, Zeta and Zombie; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be at 6 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2025, at Rupp Funeral Home with Minister Stacy Davis officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. on Friday at Rupp Funeral Home. Mr. Wilson will be cremated following services with Inurnment at a later date at Ashland Cemetery. Memorials are requested to the Noyes Home for Children.
