Saunders, Helen J. 1939-2025 Weatherby, Mo.

WEATHERBY , Mo. – Helen Joeann Saunders, 85, Weatherby, Missouri, died at home on Monday, April 7, 2025. She was born July 19, 1939, in Parks, Kansas, to parents Mack and Laura Hurd.

She graduated from Parsons Jr. College in 1958 and Bethany Hospital School of Nursing in 1961 and obtained her B.S.N from U.M.K.C in 1991. She married Frank D. Saunders Dec. 16, 1961, and made their home in the Kansas City area until 1999 when they moved to Weatherby.

During her career, as a Registered Nurse, Mrs. Saunders was an Assistant Clinical Instructor at Bethany Medical Center, Medical-Surgical nurse at Lakeside Hospital and taught Medical Terminology at Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Mrs. Saunders was active in the Girl Scouts of America and the Parent-Teacher Association for many years. She was an active member of the Hopewell Baptist Church and the Baptist Women on Mission. She was also a member of the Weatherby Coffee Friends.

She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Frank, of the home; daughters, Gina Renee’ Saunders, of Hamilton, Missouri, Kelly Lynn Halstead and husband Tony, of Kansas City, Missouri; sisters, Mary Ruth Vinson and Gloria June Gardner and husband, Steve, all of Parsons, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents and a sister.

Helen Joeann Saunders was a member of the Missouri Cremation Service. The family requests no flowers and suggest contributions be made to Hopewell Baptist Church or your favorite charity.
