KEARNEY, Neb. – Christopher “Chris” Bond, 55, of Kearney, Nebraska, passed away Monday, April 7, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family.

A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2025, at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home, in Kearney. Inurnment will be held at Kearney Cemetery at a later date. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2025, at the Fanning Community of Christ Church 1548 KS-7, Troy, KS 66087.

Chris was born Jan. 20, 1970, in Munich, Germany, to Tom and Becky (Pinger) Bond. He was raised in Troy, Kansas, and received his education from Troy High School, graduating with the class of 1988. Chris received his bachelor’s degree in 1992 from Baker University, in Baldwin City, Kansas, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity and the Baker Baseball Team. He proudly served in the National Guard during Operation Desert Storm.

On Sept. 4, 1999, Chris was united in marriage to Michelle Zook, in Newton, Kansas. The couple was blessed with two children, Emma and Eli. Chris began his insurance career with Cincinnati Insurance Company, followed by Unico Insurance Group. Chris most recently worked for Central States Enterprises. The family moved to Kearney in 2006.

Chris had a passion for the game of baseball. In his younger years, he coached many youth baseball teams, including Little League, and Titans Baseball in Kearney. In his spare time, Chris enjoyed fishing and golfing. Most of all, Chris loved spending time with his family. He was a past member of the Kearney Sertoma Club, Leadership Kearney Class #18, and was a past board member of the Kearney Children’s Museum.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Michelle Bond, of Kearney; children, Emma Bond and Eli Bond, both of Kearney; father, Tom Bond, of Highland, Kansas; brother, Pete (Deanna) Bond, of Wamego, Kansas and their daughter, Grace; sister, Jane (Justin) McCarthy, of St. Joseph, and their children, Porter, Hank and Molly; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jim and Evelyn Zook, of Newton, Kansas; brother-in-law, Troy (Sheri) Zook, of Newton; as well as many extended family members and friends.

Chris was preceded in death by his mother, Becky Bond.
