Christopher Alfred Mejia, 56, of St. Joseph, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2025, following a brief illness. Chris was born June 19, 1968, to Alfredo and Carmen (Hernandez) Mejia, in St. Joseph.

He graduated from Benton High School in 1986 and served in the United States Army and the Air Force. He worked for the Ford Motor Co., for 25 years and was a FPS Coordinator for the last 19 years. Chris was a member of the Catholic faith. He was a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather and Tio. He enjoyed cooking, fishing, traveling, and spending time with his family.

Chris was the primary caregiver for his mother, Carmen, for many years. She survives him of the home.

He was preceded in death by his father, Alfredo in 1994; his maternal grandparents, Rafael and Trinidad Hernandez; his paternal grandparents, Refugio Lona and Daniel Mejia; and several aunts and uncles.

Chris is survived by his beloved mother, Carmen Marie Mejia, of the home in St. Joseph; his daughter, Carmilla (Everado) Pedraza and her husband, Everardo Pedraza, of Eldon, Missouri; his grandchildren, Esmeralda, Antonio and Roman Pedraza; his siblings, Estelita Mejia, Anthony “Tony” (Karen) Mejia, and Liza (Travis) Merritt, all of St. Joseph, and Lydia Johnson, of Columbia, Missouri; his nieces and nephews, Danielle Brillhart, Nick and Tyler Mejia, Madelynn and Gabriel Merritt, and Harold and Natalia Johnson; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 10, at the Rupp Funeral Home in St. Joseph. The rosary will be prayed at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, at the Rupp Funeral Home, with visitation following from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial with military honors will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery in St. Joseph.
