Thuman, Jean M. 1947-2025 St. Joseph, Mo.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jean M. (Wise) Thuman. Jean, a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2025, after a lengthy illness. We are comforted in knowing she is no longer in pain.
Jean was born May 21, 1947, to Lloyd Laverne and Betty Lou (Sultzer) Wise, in St. Joseph. Her father preceded her passing in 1990, her mother in 2013.
Jean married David Thuman on Oct. 30, 1964. Together they raised three daughters: Stacey Hill (Eric), Debbie Steeby (Heath), both of St. Joseph, and Nikki Dashtaki (Cyrus), of St. Louis, Missouri.
As a young mother in 1965, her journey was not always easy. Jean was a dedicated wife, and a no-nonsense mother. Jean held high expectations for those around her and faced life’s challenges in raising a family with strength, resilience, and determination.
In later years, Jean built a career as a property manager working with families-in-need to ensure they had safe, clean, and affordable housing.
Although her life was marked by complexity and sometimes distance, we recognize her journey and love her for the person she was and all that she contributed to our lives in her own unique way. Her legacy, though imperfect, is a reminder of the complexities of human relationships.
Jean is survived by her husband of 60 years, David Thuman; her three daughters, Stacey, Debbie and Nikki; seven grandchildren: Josh (Mallory), Kelsey (Tom), Corey (Aubree), Zach (Alicea), Hannah (Brooke), Emily (Cole), Graham, Grace and Harry; seven great-grandchildren: Liam and Bennett (Zach and Alicea), Leo and Emma (Josh and Mallory), Colton and Archer (Kelsey and Tom) and Ellis (Corey and Aubree); and one sister, Carolyn Barth, of St. Joseph.
Jean wanted no fanfare when she left this world, hence a private and simple farewell has been entrusted to Simplify Cremations & Funerals. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a hospice or long-term care facility of your choice.
Godspeed and Rest in peace. As published in the St. Joseph News-Press.
