Nickell, Marvin R. 1927-2025 Hamilton, Mo.

HAMILTON, Mo. – Marvin Ross Nickell, 97, Hamilton, Missouri, passed away on March 11, 2025, at the Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home, Hamilton. Marvin moved to Hamilton in 1955 and previously lived in Columbia and Skidmore, Missouri.
Marvin was born on June 18, 1927, in Daviess County, Missouri, to Gay and Jessie (Cox) Nickell. He earned his B.S. in Education from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Marvin then honorably served his country in the Navy at the end of World War II, serving from June of 1945 to August of 1946 in the Philippines and the state of Hawaii, spending time transporting our troops back to the states. After his service, Marvin was a Vocational Agriculture teacher in Skidmore and Hamilton for over 11 years. He then became a Financial Advisor for over 30 years for Investors Diversified Services which later became American Express and then transitioned to become Ameriprise Financial.
In his spare time, Marvin enjoyed farming and wood-working. He was very active in his community and Caldwell County serving as a Charter Member of the Hamilton Lion’s Club, an involved member of the Hamilton Federated Church, and the Hamilton R-II School Board. Serving as a board member for the Caldwell County Ambulance District and the Caldwell County Little Otter Creek Water District, as well as being a member of the Missouri Gas and Steam Engine Association also kept him busy.
On Aug. 1, 1948, Marvin married Marjorie Marcusson in Bucklin, Missouri. Marjorie preceded him in death as did his parents; his daughter, Tammy; two brothers, Ellis “Bud” and Kenneth “Kenny” Nickell; and two nephews, Kevin and Kent Nickell.
Survivors who will miss him include his two sons, Dr. Michael (Janet) Nickell, Olathe, Kansas, and Dr. Steve (Debbie) Nickell, Stanberry, Missouri; six grandchildren, Dr. Jason (Dr. Stacey) Nickell, Leslie (Kurt) Harris, Arianne (Gary) Kopf, Lauren (Jamy) Clark, Dr. Jordan (Dr. Lauren) Nickell, and Adam (Paige) Madden; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Marcella Zumbrunnen, Prairie Village, Kansas; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Veda Nickell-Anderson, Sedalia, Missouri, and Mrs. Eva Nickell, St. Joseph; as well as numerous nieces, nephews; and a host of friends.
Memorial Service: 11 a.m., Monday, March 31, 2025, at the Hamilton Federated Church. Visitation: 10 to 11 a.m., one hour prior to the service, on Monday, March 31, at the church. Interment with military honors: Highland Cemetery, Hamilton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Hamilton Federated Church.
