CAMERON, Mo. – Betty Lou Curtis, 100 years old, passed away Feb. 5, 2025. Betty was born on Dec. 5, 1924, to John Frances and Marie Josephine (Quell) O’Connor of the Keystone Community southwest of Cameron, Missouri.

She graduated from Cameron High School in 1941 and attended Johnson School of Business, in St. Joseph. Betty worked for Farmers Mutual Insurance Company and Mercer Insurance Company at Cameron Savings & Loan.

Betty married B.W. “Fed” Curtis on Feb. 1, 1951. She worked in the insurance industry and farmed while becoming a full-time mother and housewife. They farmed in the Cameron area all their lives. In 1966 they purchased the O’Connor farm which became the O’Connor-Curtis Century Farm in 2019. Betty and Fed camped and traveled throughout the United States extensively. They enjoyed annual trips to Colorado with their children and grandchildren, eventually purchasing a cabin in 1977.

Betty was a life-long member of St. Munchin Catholic Church, St. Munchin Altar Society, the M & K Club, and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, B.W. “Fed” Curtis; sisters, Donna Gumminger and Joann Des-Marteau.

Survivors: children, Gary (Teresa) Curtis, Maysville, Missouri, Timothy (Meredith) Curtis, Lake Havasu, Arizona, and Carol Curtis (Ed Wallace), Kansas City, Missouri; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren; and sister, Marilyn Vasey, Raymore, Missouri.

Mass of Christian Burial: 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 2025, at St. Munchin Catholic Church. Burial in St. Munchin Catholic Cemetery. Memorial Fund: Cameron FFA Program
