Newgard, Mary Ann 1940-2025 St. Joseph, Mo.

Mary Ann (Hull) Newgard, 84, St. Joseph, passed away Friday, Jan. 31, 2025. She was born April 20, 1940, in St. Joseph, to Judge J.P. and Effie Rue (Vestal) Hull. Mary Ann was a 1958 graduate of Faucett High School and attended St. Joseph Junior College.

Mary Ann married Don Newgard on April 20, 1989. He preceded her in death on April 23, 2007.

She worked as a clerk in the Buchanan County Assessor’s Office for many years.

With a talent emerging at age 3, Mary Ann became a tremendous pianist and had played at many churches in the area, including First Baptist Church in St. Joseph, where she was a longtime member.

She cherished her loyal Shih Tzus and loved to cook, especially for family dinners.

Mary Ann leaves a legacy for her family as a strong, independent woman who was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

The family thanks AseraCare Hospice for their excellent, loving care of our mother, especially Renee and Dana.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don; and sister-in-law, Sue Hull.

Survivors include her children, Lori Mollus (Tony), Jo Peters (Barry), and Sam Riddle (Amy); grandchildren, Cori Mollus, Jacob Mollus (Stephanie), J.P. Peters (Elma), Katie Chilcoat, McKenzie Basecke (Graham), Erin Riddle (fiance, Mat Andriano), and Jack Riddle; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Sam Hull; and three nephews.

Farewell Services and Public Livestream 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Faucett Cemetery. The family will gather with friends 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. The family suggests memorial contributions to First Baptist Church of St. Joseph.
