Thompson, Mark E. 1957-2025 St. Joseph, Mo.

Mark Edward Thompson, 67, formerly of Cameron, Missouri, passed away Jan. 23, 2025. He was born Oct. 18, 1957, to George William “Bill” and Glenyis (Lawler) Thompson, in Cameron.
Mark was a 1976 graduate of Cameron High School. He received his Bachelors of Science in Business Administration from Missouri Western State College. During his college years he was a sales associate for Mister Guy clothing store and worked for Meierhoffer Fleeman Funeral Home, in St. Joseph. Mark then went to Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science and served his apprenticeship and became a licensed embalmer and funeral director for Poland-Thompson Funeral Home, in Cameron.
In 1987, Mark received his Masters of Business Administration from Ottawa University and worked as a nursing home administrator for a facility in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and then in Clinton, Missouri. Feeling a call to return back to the funeral industry, he became a sales representative for Aurora Casket Company for several years and went on to own and operate St. Joseph Casket Company.
Mark enjoyed his hobbies, collecting antique furniture, signs and memorabilia, working on and restoring antique cars, especially Ford Mustangs, with his father, and fishing. In 1983 he was named “Outstanding Young Men of America”.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Glenyis; granddaughter, Mareta Lynn Lyons; brother-in-law, Marvin Estes.
Mark is survived by his daughters, Lacie (Cameron) Lyons, Hohenfels, Germany, Cristin (Corey) Myers, St. Joseph; grandchildren, Huey Lyons, Taya and Joel Myers; sister, Nancy Estes, St. Joseph; former wife and mother to his children, Hollie Thompson; nephew, Trevor (Michelle) Estes, St. Joseph; great-niece and nephew; many cousins.
Memorial fund to Mark’s grandchildren’s education.
Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2025, at St. Munchin Catholic Church, Cameron. Visitation 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, 2025, at Poland-Thompson Chapel, Cameron.
