Josephine “Jo” Segatto Chyatte, who lived an active and fulfilling life well into her 90s, passed away peacefully at age 95, Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2025. Jo was born on April 26, 1929, to Franklin and Erminia (Spunta) Segatto, in New York, New York.

Jo earned her masters degree and dedicated several years to serving as a school child psychologist working with special education children. A fiercely independent woman until the very end, Jo maintained her own home and cared for herself well into her 90s.

As an avid traveler, she explored destinations around the globe into her later years and enjoyed shopping in each new place she visited.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Marcella; her husband; her son, Clifford; two grandsons.

She will be remembered by her son, Douglas; his wife, Deb; her two grandchildren; her seven great-grandchildren; as well as extended family and friends.

As a patron to the arts and museums, she found joy in supporting cultural institutions and spent many happy years as a proud resident of Chicago. She was very proud of her gardens which reflected her love for nature.

She will be remembered by family and friends for her adventurous spirit, green thumb and ability to live life to the fullest at any age.

Celebration of her life Services 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2025, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. The family will gather with friends 12:30 to 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Joseph School District and library.
