DEKALB, Mo. – Georgia Ellen Abbott, 83, of DeKalb, Missouri, passed away on Jan. 26, 2025, at Medicalodge, in Atchison, Kansas. She was born Feb. 22, 1941, to Fielding and Hazel Ballard, in St. Joseph.

On July 25, 1965, she married Gerald “Jerry” Abbott, in St. Joseph. She spent much of her life working on the farm. She was a devoted farm wife and mother, was involved with their tobacco harvest and cooked many meals for her family and farm help. Georgia enjoyed cooking, working in the garden, and canning. She also loved going out to eat, especially fast food, going to the casino with her friend, Shirley, and getting her hair and nails done. Georgia was a dedicated grandmother, watching her grandchildren in all their school activities, especially sports. She lived a very simple life and never really needed much, but would give you everything she had, especially, her children and grandchildren.

Georgia was preceded in death by her parents, Fielding and Hazel Ballard; brother, William Ballard; sisters, Shirley Best, Vera Pelzman, and Ellen Pawling.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Gerald Abbott, of the home; daughters, Tina (Tom) Farrell and Tonya (Frank) Knorr, both of DeKalb; grandchildren, Baylee Knorr (Gavin Raney) and Brody Knorr; step-granddaughter, Hannah Smith; sister, Hazel Hall, of St. Joseph; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2025, at Rupp Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Barnett officiating. Family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Rupp Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Westlawn Cemetery, DeKalb.

Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association.
