NAMPA, Idaho – Marillyn R. Nichols was born April 29, 1934, in Savannah, Missouri, to Raymond T. Gillup and Roberta Marie Gillup (Kimsey). Siblings Roger Gillup and Janice Tyhurst.

Marillyn passed away Jan. 12, 2025, in Nampa, Idaho. She was 90 years old. Final interment Mount Olivet Cemetery, St. Joseph.

Marillyn is survived by her children, Edward Michael Nichols, James Richard Nichols, Sharon Ann Nichols, John Joseph Nichols, Charles Raymond Nichols, Kelley Marie Aker; nieces, Barbara Bigelow, Mary Margeret Nichols, Becky Higgenson, Kristen Tyhurst; nephews, Raymond Gillup, James Tyhurst and Brian Begin; grandchildren, Michael, Allen, Katie, David, Emily, Ryan, Shannon, Elaine, John Jr., April, Sarah, Shea, Charles II, Kevin and Amanda; she also has 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Marillyn attended high school in St Joseph at Lafayette High. While living in St. Joseph she met her husband, Edward Francis Nichols, and married June 12, 1952, at St. Joseph Cathedral Catholic Church.

Marillyn worked several jobs in her life, including in retail, waitress/food service, and retired from Rockwell Aerospace as a welder.

While living in Columbus, Ohio, Marillyn became a huge Ohio State Buckeyes football fan.

Our mother, grandmother and aunt was the kindest, strongest person ever. She raised six kids, and numerous “friends’ kids”, always with a smile and encouraging words. We will miss her. As published in the St. Joseph News-Press.
